Track & field hand timing

ELITE
Field Measurement / Video Assist
Calibrate from two known reference lengths, tap the mark, then confirm into field results.
FIELD
Field measurement: follow these steps
  1. Place two identical known lengths on the same flat surface and in the same direction as the jump or throw mark: one near the mark and one farther away.
  2. Frame both references and the complete mark. Keep the device square, steady and clear of athletes.
  3. Tap Open Measurement, allow the camera, then capture a sharp frame after the attempt.
  4. Tap the six requested points in order: near reference start/end, far reference start/end, then measurement start/end.
  5. Check the displayed quality and distance. Undo or clear points if either reference is not aligned.
  6. Select the competitor, attempt and legal/foul/pass status. The adult field official checks the mark and saves the attempt.
  7. For records or formal progression, confirm with a calibrated tape or EDM unless the referee has validated this setup.

Video Finish Assist
Slit camera timing
Video finish: follow these steps
  1. Mount the device: place it side-on, square to the finish line, below shoulder height, with all four test lanes visible. Keep it completely still.
  2. Allow the camera: use the rear camera and turn the iPad or phone to landscape. If the preview is backwards, tap the camera-switch button.
  3. Align the slit: drag the vertical slit line directly over the finish line. Do this before Race Control arms the race.
  4. Start together: Race Control arms the heat. The Starter uses Manual GO for the electronic start tone, or enables gun detection for an external clap or starting device.
  5. Do not touch the camera during the race: detected finishes will appear automatically. Use Add Manual only if a finish was missed.
  6. Review before publishing: check every detected finish against the lane timers and Finish Judge, correct the order if needed, then publish.
Video Finish Assist provides placement review and finish proof; it is not certified fully automatic timing. Keep lane timers and a Finish Judge running during the test.
